About

Samuel La Manna, ritratto in bianco e nero

Samuel La Manna writes electronic music the way other people write letters — quietly, and with something specific in mind.

Born to Italian roots and based in Munich, he has been producing original electronic compositions since 2016, the same year he joined GEMA as a registered author. His work sits where melodic house meets progressive and melodic techno: long-form arrangements, basslines with weight and intent, synths that behave more like weather than decoration.

The approach is deliberate. A track usually begins with a single motif — eight bars that refuse to leave — and grows outward through months of revision. Nothing is left to a preset. Every layer is placed, filtered and re-recorded until the arrangement breathes on its own, and the mix holds together as clearly on headphones at low volume as it does on a large system at two in the morning.

The range is deliberate too. Alongside the long melodic pieces there is material written for scale — EDM built for festival systems, where the same melodic instinct has to carry across a field rather than a pair of headphones — and a radio edit for every release, the full arrangement cut to broadcast length without losing the part that made it worth writing. Knowing what a track survives losing is its own discipline.

What results is music with two temperaments in it: the warmth and melodic openness of the south, and the restraint, structure and engineering discipline of where he now lives and works. He is independent by choice — writing, producing, mixing and releasing everything himself, at the pace the material actually needs.

The goal is never volume. It is resonance — a piece that still means something the fourth time you hear it.
